Description:
When we set out to refurbish and find new homes for mid-century typewriters, choosing our first model was an easy decision.
Designed by Marcello Nizzoli in 1950, the Olivetti Lettera 22 quickly became a design icon of the era, winning numerous awards throughout the 1950s. Its compact size and lightweight build made it a favorite among journalists and writers such as William S. Burroughs and Françoise Sagan. The sleek, modern aesthetic also earned it a spot in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
This particular model, made in Glasgow in 1960, carries the serial number XS752169 and features the distinctive two-tone color scheme of the ‘XS’ series. Measuring 28cm x 28cm x 7cm, it comes in a teal blue enamel metal casing with black circular keys.
In excellent condition, the typewriter shows no marks on the body or keys. It has been professionally serviced, cleaned, and is in full working order.
The original Olivetti carry case is also included, showing only minor signs of age-related wear, with fully functional zips and handle.
Additionally, it comes with the original Lettera 22 instruction manual and aluminum cleaning brush kit.
This beautifully preserved Olivetti Lettera 22 from 1960 is a celebration of timeless design and engineering.
