Welcome to Joes Workshop
At Joe's Workshop, we specialise in buying, refurbishing, and finding new homes for vintage typewriters. Each machine we restore is more than just a tool; it’s a bridge to the past, a mechanical extension of human creativity in a world increasingly shaped by artificial boundaries.
Every typewriter holds a unique story. Whether it once belonged to a famous author, a factory manager, a young woman seeking independence, or even a Cold War operative, no two machines share the same history. Each one is a testament to the lives and moments it touched.
Joe’s Workshop is named in honour of our grandfather, Joe, a passionate motorcycle enthusiast who, in 1936, broke the circuit speed record at Brooklands Speedway in the UK on his Vincent 1000 motorcycle. After migrating to New Zealand post-war, he opened a workshop repairing motorcycles, lawnmowers, and chainsaws. His love for mechanics and craftsmanship inspired us from an early age.
If you’re drawn to the beauty of vintage craftsmanship and the stories behind each machine, Joe’s Workshop is here to connect you with a typewriter that speaks to you.
